Global Gathering : Sydney

Kicking off a lazy sunday afternoon - this event really did steal the spotlight over the weekend - killing all other festivals around it. (& yes there were others on - if you didn't know!)

With headliners you would pay the price of the ticket to just see one of them - the folk at Future/Angle/Ministry etc really got it right!

Taking over Fox Studios, it was similar in size to the hey day of the Mardi Gras parties, and the crowd really got into the different themed spaces... from the very cool DJ Sneak in the Hordern to Sascha outside... the highlight of the night was definitely Mark Ronson and band... including our good mate and well, incredible, Daniel Merriweather. An astounding set that really showcased the place our local boy has gained on the international music scene - its a big jump also from first seeing MArk DJ at the Gaelic club over 5 years ago - and all the lads were there on stage with him - just a GREAT set.

A killer concert set that made a dance oriented event into a real festival (not just a dance party) - it was a true balance... cool DJ's mixed with different and top notch sounds in each space. You could go on a musical journey just walking around the different spaces. Even the Forum went off with a cute heavy meets commercial sound dropping throughout the LA Riots Set (even with a blasting sound system that made your ears bleed - you really didn't care.) Godskitchen tripped the light fantastic away in the RHI, the only negative there is that the space was so huge for the crowd, and the scenic was a little lack luster, but then again scenic wasn't really strong across the board - it didn't need to be - the music is what stood out.

Global Gathering had a good mix of party kids, festival heads and of course muso's. Its rare to find a crowd that has such a good mix - and people who were actually into the music rather than just getting munted. I would highly recommend checking out this festival again - its a great event - even if on a sunday and we have to go to school/work the next day! lol
