Speed the Plow : On Broadway (NYC)

Another stop on POPrepublic.tv’s tour of New York was an exclusive preview performance of the Broadway play, ‘Speed The Plow’. A biting commentary on Hollywood’s wicked ways, the show takes an inside look at the film industry’s struggle between art & commerce. The play is enjoying its 20th anniversary, & originally made headlines when it launched on Broadway starring Madonna back in 1988. On October 14, we joined the Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright David Mamet at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre where the new production is currently running.

The latest cast includes the Emmy winning star of ‘Entourage’, Jeremy Piven. After his star-making TV role as ball busting Hollywood agent Ari Gold, he was the perfect leading man for this production. Joining him are Raul Esparza (Company on Broadway, Pushing Daisies) & Elisabeth Moss (The West Wing, Mad Men).

We met the cast after the show to congratulate them on an incredible performance. Other well wishers included Jeff Goldblum - who starred opposite Kevin Spacey in the West End production (& opposite our editor Rob in the men’s room), screen star Erika Christensen, & Piven’s mother, Joyce Hiller Piven – who runs the famed Piven Theatre Workshop. The knockout cast & the show’s subject matter have attracted an impressive list of A-list attendees during recent weeks. Fergie, Barbara Walters, Pink, Ben Stiller & NYC Mayor Rudy Giuliani have all been in the house for recent performances. Speed The Plow is running for a limited season & is a MUST SEE for anyone visiting NYC. Check out www.speedtheplowonbroadway.com for more info.
