Bye Bye Music Television

MTV is making it official — the network no longer counts music as its cornerstone.

As of Monday, MTV in the USA is sporting a redesigned logo with the phrase “Music Television” removed as its tagline and mainly focused on scripted 'reality' shows like The Hills, The Real World, Jersey Shore, Teen MOM, and etc.

A major force in the music business, MTV had major impact on many of the world's music artists, but seems to be more interested in flash in the pan real-u-stars and self created tripe than actual entertainment.

MTV Australia foretold of this change recently, when the channel was removed from the "music channel" area on cable TV, opting for a new home in the light entertainment category... even producing a slew of horrible ads pretending that it was not their choice on the 'move'.

With the changes - does this mean MTV will be dropping music all together? Will Ruby Rose be moving to free-to-air permanently? Does anyone even watch the reality shows that the network now desperately clings too??  Does tabloid headlines mean viewers and fans?

Will other "music" channels follow suit???

What's your opinion on the new MTV?

no one cares about MTV anymore... the format has lost its place thanks to the internet. people can watch what they want when they like and not get bombarded with horrible hosts, ringtone ads and clips that only the record companies care about.

as for their reality shows- i wouldnt watch them if you paid me. absolute trash.
